PHILIPP KÖHLER / MICHAEL KRENZ / SEBASTIAN NEBE | july 28 – september 8, 2007 |

 | | The works of Philipp Köhler range between installation, sculpture and conceptual art. This does not involve the aesthetic configuration of everyday occurrences, but the experimentation mechanisms of perception and reception of art. Therefore the line between artificiality and reality loses its severeness. The works are created in and for the specific context of the exhibition and refer to the premises and the surroundings. The elaborate fabrication of the objects from often unsuitable materials stands in contrast to their inconspicuousness.
In a remarkable way viewers are familiar with the works of Michael Krenz. Krenz avails himself of the objects and circumstances of our everyday life. He practices an ironic and sometimes also strange game with his works. Krenz modifies things we know, reduces them or adds elements to them; new combinations are created. The habitual context might simply be relocated and finally the result will be entitled to the point so that the viewers will carry on the game. (Christian Linsenmaier)
Sebastian Nebe rather understands his painting as a medium which is associated with various parameters; Nebe considers that painting is able to reflect also further methods of representation such as film and photography at the same time. (Dr. Ralf Hartmann) |
